Delete your SoapBox Republic account
You can delete your account and the data linked to it at any time. It is free, and you don't need the app installed. This also deletes the data that came from Google, Apple, or Facebook sign-in.
Option 1 (the main way): In the app
- Open SoapBox Republic and sign in.
- Go to Settings → Delete account.
- Read the notice and tap Delete my account. Deletion is immediate, it can't be undone, and you are signed out.
Option 2 (backup): Without the app, by email
- Email support@soapboxrepublic.com from the email address on your account, with the subject line "Delete my account." Use this if you can't use the app, for example because you uninstalled it or lost your phone.
- We verify it is really you. Email sender addresses can be faked, so we reply to the email address on your account and ask you to confirm. We delete only after you confirm from that address. We never ask for a password, ID document, or payment details. If someone writes from a different address, we send the confirmation to the account's email address instead, and we do nothing unless it is confirmed from there.
- Turnaround. We reply within 1–3 business days. After you confirm, we delete the account within 3 business days, the same way the app does, and we email you when it's done. The rest of this page (what is deleted, what is kept, and for how long) applies the same way.
- If you no longer have access to your account email, tell us. We will open a support case. We won't delete an account without proof that it's yours, such as signing in again, or confirming details only the account holder would know. We never ask for a password or ID document.
If you signed up with Sign in with Apple and hid your email, or skipped sharing it, write from the email address you use with that provider, and say which sign-in you used. We will open a support case to verify the account before deleting it.
What we delete
- Your account: email address, password hash, account number, and email-confirmation date
- Your linked Google, Apple, or Facebook sign-ins, and any one-time codes. If you used Sign in with Apple, you can also remove SoapBox Republic in your Apple ID settings.
- All your poll votes and withdrawal records. Your votes come out of every poll's totals.
- All your profile-quiz answers, your profile, and any About-you answers
- Your consent records
- All posts you wrote, removed from the app and from public view. We do not keep them up as a public record.
- Authors you blocked, members whose polls you hid, and other members' blocks of you
- Your civic participation points, badges, and badge setting; Community polls you submitted that were never published; and the poll reports you filed
- Your Android device-integrity results
When
- In the app: right away. By email: within 3 business days after you confirm.
- Any leftover copies in our active systems are purged within 30 days.
- Copies in backups are overwritten within 7 days. We never use backups to bring deleted accounts back.
What we keep, and why
- Community polls you created that went live. They stay up because other members voted on them, but we remove the link to your account, so nothing connects them to you. We take them down within 12 months, or sooner if you ask.
- Group totals already published, sold, or licensed. They contain no personal information, so they stay as released.
- Post reports: reports you filed (with your account link removed) and reports about your posts, with a private safety snapshot (post ID, your former account number, up to 280 characters of the post). Kept while the review is open, then at least 12 months and no more than 24 months after it closes.
- Community poll reports and reviews are different: poll reports you filed, and review notes about polls you created, are deleted with your account. (Otherwise they are kept up to 2 years.) A live poll that stays up keeps only its public status.
- Your normalized email address (trimmed, lowercased) and the deletion date, so the address can't register again. No password, posts, or profile is kept with it. No set end date today.
- Records the law requires (for example, records of a website tip), for as long as the law requires.
- Support emails: about 90 days, then erased.
What we can't delete
Posts and approved polls can be read publicly, so copies may exist that we don't control: screenshots, text people copied, quoted, or reshared elsewhere, and pages saved by search engines or web archives. If someone quoted your post in their own SoapBox Republic post, you can report it, or email us, and we will review it under our rules.
